This 17 acre greenfield site is in Prince Charles Drive, Calne.
Outline planning permission for a scheme of up to 130 residential dwellings (30% affordable) was granted by the Secretary of State in June 2016, following an appeal lodged against the refusal to grant planning permission by Wiltshire Council in March 2015.
The site was not allocated for development and lay outside the Framework Boundary defined in the adopted local plan. It was, however, successfully argued that the Council could not demonstrate sufficient land for housing and, when assessed against the policies in the National Planning Policy Framework, the adverse impacts would not significantly or demonstrably outweigh the benefits as a whole.
The planning inspector ruled the site was in a sustainable location and the appeal was allowed.
