A planning application dealing with reserved matters has been submitted to Tewkesbury Borough Council in connection with the proposed Retail Outlet and Garden Centre at Ashchurch, Tewkesbury.

The council granted outline planning permission for the proposed development near Junction 9 of the M5 at Ashchurch in June 2016.

A significant amount of work has been undertaken since and the first reserved matters application has now been submitted by developer Robert Hitchins Ltd.

This reserved matters application is the first of many and provides detail about the infrastructure which needs to be put in place. It sets out the design principles which will form a benchmark for the scheme, the quality of the public realm areas and a detailed Surface Water Drainage Strategy.

It does not seek to change the nature of the development, retail floor space nor access arrangements specified in the existing planning permission.

Robert Hitchins Ltd is pleased to confirm that there is significant interest in the proposed development and the company will be submitting the main planning application for the final design later this year.

The complex on a 23-hectare site on the A46 is expected to bring up to 1,000 jobs on completion and more than 200 during construction.

The out-of-town retail outlet centre will provide a range of high quality stores offering goods at discount prices and alongside a garden centre located adjacent will provide an attractive leisure destination that will draw visitors from a wide area.

There will be a tourist information point at the outlet and a shuttle bus into Tewkesbury town centre which will link with Ashchurch railway station, providing an opportunity to promote the Tewkesbury area as an all-year-round tourism and leisure destination.

A significant package of S106 measures have been agreed which will contribute £1.2 million towards town centre initiatives in Tewkesbury and £364,000 towards major improvements to the A46.
