North Bitham Park, Westbury

Wiltshire

  • Planning Authority Westbury
  • Type Residential
  • Area 27 acres
  • Size 300 dwellings

This 27.5-acre greenfield site lies north of Bitham Park on the edge of Westbury.

Outline planning permission for a scheme of up to 300 homes was granted by the Secretary of State in July 2016 following an appeal lodged against the refusal to grant planning permission by Wiltshire Council.

The site was not allocated for development and lay outside the Framework Boundary defined in the adopted local plan. The Inspector concluded, however, that the Council could not demonstrate sufficient land for housing and, when assessed against the policies in the National Planning Policy Framework, the adverse impacts of the proposals did not outweigh the significant benefit of securing housing, including affordable housing for which there is a pressing need.

September 2014 Application for outline planning permission submitted
March 2015 Application refused by Wiltshire Council
July 2016 Appeal allowed by Secretary of State – planing permission granted.
November 2016 Site Sold
